12/6/16  To-do List

There is no special way to attack this action list. If it seems overwhelming, just do the first two items to make it easier.  If you have a little more time, do the third….and the fourth…. Or, choose items that speak to your heart.  Some people cut and paste the list, print it off and take it with them so they can check items off while they are out and about during the day and just waiting or driving.  Others click and do items as they work on their computer or phone.  There is no right way to do this.  Just do something!

  1. Please sign a petition to keep our news media accountable to the truth:

  1. Keep ordering tickets for the Trump “victory tour”, then not go!

  1. Organization for Action (OFA) is a nonprofit 501c4 organization and community organizing project that advocates for the agenda of U.S. President Barack Obama. OFA has just created a new way for people to organize and work together.  If you go to this link and click on connect (near the top right corner) you can sign up and be part of this exciting new endeavor.  Once you join, you can choose groups to which to belong.  This is new so give it time to grow, but it is hopeful!

  1. Please consider joining a new organization called flippable.  A group of former Hillary staffers are looking to “flip” local races.  Let’s help them!

  1. Stand with Rep. Cummings and sign the petition to investigate Trump’s potential corruption.

  1. The 2016 election was the first without the full protection of the Voting Rights Act.  Take this poll to answer this question:   Do you believe that the Supreme Court's gutting of the Voting Rights Act played a role in Donald Trump's victory?

  1. Learn about the Electoral College and the mission of the Hamilton Electors:  Consider “liking” the Hamilton Electors on FB:

  1. On Dec. 13, the Electoral College Petition group will publish an open letter to Electors in full-page newspapers ads across the country. Please support this effort with your donation, if you can.

  1. If you’ve not signed this Electoral College petition yet, please do!

  1. Here is a handy checklist to help you determine if an item is a fake news piece:

  1. The Breitbart “don’t advertise” project is working!  Here is a list of companies that will no longer allow their third party advertisers to use Breitbart as an advertising vehicle.  Good work, everyone!  These companies should be supported and congratulated!

  1. Take steps to defund DAPL (Dakota Access Pipeline) to make sure it doesn't rear its ugly head again when Trump takes office.

  1. Petition to Obama to rescind National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS), to make it more difficult for the Trump administration to implement a Muslim registry:

  1. If you know IT developers, programmers, and entrepreneurs who are DISSATISFIED with the current political/social/everything situation: Next week, Debug Politics will be beta testing a system that allows people from all around the world to join hackathon teams from the host city. Forward this short form:

  1. Go to this site to print off flyers, posters, etc. to use in your home or business to show that you are welcoming to all.

  1. Another opportunity to get involved: is a resource hub for people who are upset about the election and want to make a difference. and/or “like” their FB page:

  1. This is now rushing through the MI House:  Bill 6097 – sponsored by Lisa Lyons (the same woman who introduced voter suppression legislation this week) that would require any candidate requesting a recount and who received less than 5% of the vote to pay 100% of the costs of the recount. According the House Fiscal Agency’s analysis of the bill, “if the percentage differential is less than 5%, the current law—that the petitioner must only pay $25 per district for which the petitioner is requesting a recount—will remain in effect.”  The final line of the bill says, “This amendatory act is retroactive and effective January 1, 2016” meaning that they are retroactively applying this to specifically punish Jill Stein.  Call your representatives now!

  1. As you may have heard, contacting our people in Lansing worked!  Retirement benefits for teachers, as well as for public safety personnel, will not be addressed in this lame duck session.  We WILL have work to do in January when they bring up new, but similar bills.

  1. Depending on where you live in MI, there still may be a opportunity to help with the recount:

  1. If you are in Grand Traverse County and would like to be a Hillary observer, click here:
