  1. Just so you all know, President Obama is on our side. He said so.

  1. If you know/hear of anyone being detained at any airport under Trump's Executive Order, call the ACLU hotline at 415-621-2488. People are on standby to file habeas petitions to get folks out as soon as possible. Spread widely.

  1. This past weekend, Trump removed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence from the National Security Council. He replaced them with Steve Bannon. Bannon has no government, intelligence, or high-level military experience; his experience is leading a propaganda outlet (Breitbart News) that peddles nationalist and white nationalist viewpoints.  ( )  This would be deeply concerning in and of itself. But one of the jobs of the NSC is to oversee a secret panel that authorizes the assassination of “enemies of the United States Government” – including American citizens. These targeted killings are fully authorized by law under the Congressional military authorization act following 9/11. There is no trial, no due process, and no public record of the decision or the assassination itself.  Just to recap the absurdity: the President of the United States has appointed a known propagandist, nationalist, and white supremacist to replace the highest military advisor in the country on a council that authorizes secret, legal, targeted killings of American citizens (and others) without due process.  Call your federal senators, representatives, attorneys general, and state governors this week and demand that they publicly and legislatively oppose Trump’s appointment of Steven Bannon to the NSC.  Find them here:

  1. If you want to track the reactions of your federal legislators and your state governors regarding the Muslim ban, check here (includes statements, links, and contact info:

  1. From one of our own:  Paul Ryan's and Mitch McConnell's offices are not taking phone calls. This from Senator Peters office just now, when I asked if we, the people, have no recourse to what is happening. She said, "Ordinarily, I would encourage you to call their offices, but we have just been informed that their offices are not taking calls."  Time to call your legislators and ask why this is happening!  Find them here:

  1. Anyone for coffee?  Let’s support Starbucks, which has vowed to hire 10,000 refugees after Trump’s travel ban.

  1. It seems that the right is now calling for boycotts against Starbucks for their vow to hire refugees.  They are also receiving negative calls and comments.  Let’s thanking them for their stand,  Call:  800-782-7282  or make some comments on their FB page: or on Twitter @Starbucks

  1. The ACLU is seeking a second hearing on Sessions for Attorney General given the reported involvement of Senator Sessions in recent executive orders, they request that the committee hold a second hearing with Senator Sessions to consider the position of the nominee on the extraordinary claims of executive authority, and the grave dangers to civil liberties and civil rights, posed by the actions taken and proposed by President Donald Trump over the past few days. Please contact members of the Judiciary Committee and voice your support: as well as your own senators:

  1. Please join the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in a powerful chorus of voices across America to reject the hate and extremism that is infecting the new administration.  Bannon, the man who rallied the white nationalist movement behind Donald Trump, is now a permanent member of the National Security Council, giving him more access to our national security intelligence than the Joint Chiefs of Staff.   We cannot forget that this is the man, who, in his own words, turned the Breitbart News website into “the platform for the alt-right.” The alt-right is simply a rebranding of white nationalism for the digital age.  Sign here:

  1. Expressing yourself can also be done by where you choose to spend your money.  This site should help you decided:

  1. From one of our own:  While Uber's CEO will be on an advisory board for Trump, Lyft will be donating $1,000,000 per year for the next four years to ACLU. Call your state's attorney general, and ask what they're doing to protect against discrimination.  Washington state has already filed a lawsuit against Trump over the ban:

  1. FiveThirtyEight has created a resource that tracks how often members of congress vote with/against POTUS:

  1. Some journalists have reported Facebook posts critical of Trump being switched to private after making publicly available. With that in mind, periodically double check that you are reaching your intended audience on Facebook.  By the way, this woman would be good to follow.  She is an upcoming voice of journalistic integrity.

  1. From Justice for Our Neighbors:  Elected officials must understand the broad support for welcoming refugees and other newcomers. Please call your local, state, and national leaders — tell them where you’re from, why you care about refugees, and urge them to support the U.S. refugee resettlement program. Click here for more information including a sample call script from our friends at Refugee Council USA:

  1. From Justice for Our Neighbors:  We are all hearing stories of people around the country and around the world who are directly affected by the Executive Order. The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HAIS) developed this form to collect and share these stories to illustrate the widespread devastation of Trumps’ policy: These stories can include:  1)  People detained at ports of entry, 2)  Refugees who were expecting to come to the U.S. (in the “pipeline”), 3) U.S. residents who were expecting their family members to join them in the U.S., 4) Communities and congregations who were expecting to welcome refugees (i.e. furnishing apartments, collecting donations, etc.) By filling out the form, you are ranting permission for these stories to be told publicly.  No identifying information will be used. Photos are encouraged. Please contact with any questions.

  1. Talking with family and friends who support Trump:

  1. Greenpeace will be resisting every future attempt by the Trump Administration -- whether it’s attacking the Clean Power Plan, rolling back fuel efficiency standards, approving pipelines, or opening up the Arctic to drilling again -- to weaken our country’s ability to meet its climate commitments as defined in the historic agreement.  Let’s join in this effort with them:

  1. If there were ever a time to support the ACLU, it is now.  Here is their seven-point plan to take on the Trump administration.  As we saw on Saturday evening, they are already working hard for us.  For more informatin:

  1. Good talking points to remember and use:  Trump has said that he intends to get rid of 75% of government regulations. Congressional Republicans called for immediate elimination of regulations from the Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Security and Exchange Commission. What would be eliminated?  Protections against cancerous poisons in foods, drugs untested for their safety, unsafe drinking water, air pollutants that get into your lungs and can’t get out, fraudulent stack sales, unscrupulous mortgages. That is what our president and Congress are proposing, hiding it behind the word “regulations.”  When you talk with your legislators or others who want to eliminate regulations, shift the frame: always say “protections” instead of “regulations.” “Protections” is a more simple and accurate description.

  1. has published “20 Ways You Can Act Now To Support Muslims/Immigrants + Resist DT: A Solidarity Sundays Emergency Guide.” Solidarity Sunday is “a nationwide network of feminist activist groups focused on taking action to resist Trump. 1. Last month, top tech corporations: Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft, Google, Apple, IBM, Booz Allen Hamilton, SRA International, and CGI were all asked if they’d sell their technology to help Trump build a Muslim registry - an insidious plan to track, racially profile, and relegate Muslim Americans to second-class citizenship. Please join the Color of Change, an online racial justice organization, in telling tech firms to NOT help Trump build a Muslim Registry:

  1. For a link to your legislators and script to use when contacting them about the Muslim ban, go to Weekly Action to Resist Trump ( and choose "Muslim bans and registries" under the "pick a specific issue" drop-down menu.  Then, select your state, then legislator.

On Monday, call your members in both houses to intro legislation. Someone will. Then, call your members to cosponsor. There are Republicans who are nervous about this horrible Muslim Ban, and I'd expect this is actually possible. Get to work. Find your legislators here:

  1. From Sen. Harris:  I've defended immigrant and refugee communities before — and I'm prepared to do it again with imminent attacks from this administration. Add your name in opposition to Trump’s refugee ban:

  1. SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ALL VULNERABLE GROUPS:  ATTENTION: Immigrants and Refugees from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen:  YOU HAVE RIGHTS.  If you are denied entry or detained at a port of entry by a Customs and Border Protection here's what you should do:  1) Green Card Holders: Resist any demands to give up your green card. Do NOT sign Form I-407, even if they say it will make things easier. 2) Demand a hearing from a judge: You have the right to a hearing with an immigration judge. Do NOT relinquish this right. 3) Demand to Speak to an Attorney: You have the right to be represented by an attorney. Ask to speak to an attorney, and discuss details of your case with only your attorney, not CBP. From:  Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights:

  1. There have been zero fatal terror attacks on U.S. soil since 1975 by immigrants from the seven Muslim-majority countries Trump targeted with immigration bans on Friday, further highlighting the needlessness and cruelty of the president’s executive order. Send a postcard or letter to Donald Trump with the simple message: “Don’t make America sick again.  Improve the ACA.  Don’t repeal it.”  Send to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC  20500.

  1. The mobilization of millions of women all across the globe on Saturday was a stunning accomplishment.  Over 500,000 marched in DC in solidarity with women from every background.  From toddlers to octogenarians, surrounded by partners and spouses and friends, the areas surrounding the National Mall were filled with messages of hope and resilience.  As we marched, we were surrounded by the landmark Smithsonian museums, but one was missing -- the one dedicated to women's history.  Consider committing $5 or more to help build the National Women's History Museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC.  We made history on Saturday, now let's help build our history museum.

  1. Some people are having their own postcards made reflecting issues that are important to them.  If you’d like to do that, Visaprint is having a 50% off sale right now through the end of the month.

  1. Here is a piece by strong woman from the right who understands why it was important to march and wrote to help others understand. Such thoughts are so assuring to us that we can find common ground.

  1. From MomsRising The U.S. Senate has started voting on Trump’s cabinet nominees. It’s an understatement to say that this isn’t a normal cabinet, nomination process, or election. These nominees represent and promote hateful ideals and policies that are harmful for our children and our economy. We cannot stay silent because these dangerous cabinet nominations hurt our children and families, threaten our economy, and tear at the fabric or our democracy. Join us in telling the U.S. Senate not to confirm a Cabinet of BigotryClick to sign onto a letter to your U.S. Senator about the cabinet nominees:

  1. From MomsRising Childcare now costs more than college. This is a national emergency. Parents need safe, enriching places for their children to be so they can go to work, kids need high-quality childcare so they can thrive, and childcare workers need fair pay. We need solutions at every level! 1. President Trump just instituted a gag order to all employees in the Environmental Protection Agency and the USDA, however public outcry reversed that decision for the USDA. That means scientists are barred from communicating with the public about taxpayer-funded work.  It’s ridiculous, and we must stand against this.  Let’s join with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to demand that the gag rule be revoked: Furthermore, Trump is now mandating that political staff review EPA scientific studies before being released.  This is highly unusual.

  1. Join in Bernie Sanders organization, Our Revolution, to oppose the Dakota Access and Keystone pipelines:

  1. Marchers:   Consider sending a note to mayors who allowed marches to be hosted, to police departments who keep our marchers safe, and to transit authority who adapted schedules to support our large gatherings.  Thank them for being true patriots by upholding freedom of speech and the right to peaceably assemble.

  1. From Sierra Club:  The Keystone XL pipeline was rejected because it was determined not to be in the country's best interest, and the environmental review of the Dakota Access Pipeline was ordered because of the threats it poses to the Standing Rock Sioux's water supply.  Show President Trump that we will continue to fight these pipelines every step of the way. If you are on Twitter, also send him this tweet:  .@realDonaldTrump isn't standing w/the people -- these pipelines aren't in our national interest & we will #resist! #NoKXL #NoDAPL

  1. The National Park Service (NPS) is coming in for some hard times with this administration.  NPS is an agency of the United States federal government that manages all U.S. national parks, many American national monuments, and other conservation and historical properties with various title designations. Take a look at this encouraging video:  Weekend Protest Opportunity:  Visit a National Park close to you.  Buy something in the gift shop, and tell a park ranger thank you.  Find your Park here:

  1. Trump’s gag rule on many government agencies has cause them to create unofficial Twitter accounts so that they can still fulfill their responsibility of getting information to us taxpayers.  Please consider following them to support them and to keep informed:   @AltForestServ @AltNatParkSer @Alt_NASA @RogueNASA @altUSEPA @Alt_CDC @AltHHS @alt_fda @Alt_NIH @altusda

  1. If you are not already on Twitter, this would be a good day to sign up.  So much will be happening there that you won’t want to miss.  This will help you get started in just a short time:

  1. See what the United State of Women is all about by watching this video:  Consider joining them to find action items for the issues you care about:  Check out a week of action planned for February 18th-25th, coinciding with the first Congressional recess:

  2. Due to the real threat that this administration is anti-science, there is a Scientists’ March on Washington being planned. “Although this will start with a march, we hope to use this as a starting point to take a stand for science in politics. Slashing funding and restricting scientists from communicating their findings (from tax-funded research!) with the public is absurd and cannot be allowed to stand as policy. This is a non-partisan issue that reaches far beyond people in the STEM fields and should concern anyone who values empirical research and science.” Here’s their March for Science FB page:  and their closed FB group  page if you feel you fit:  For more info and to sign up for updates:

  1. Please consider signing the petition to Trump to not stop refugee settlement in the United States.  We have a safe, proven system that works as outlined here:  Sign here:

  1. Let’s join the League of Conservation Voters in thanking Sen. Peters for his opposition to Pruitt and for calling him out for attacking the EPA's lifesaving public health standards.

  1. Tell your mayor to stand up to Trump and expand sanctuary cities. Mijente, a Latinx and Chicanx organization focused on social progress, shows us how:

  2. Data shows that the kind of voter fraud that Trump want to target in his investigation, is very small and rare.  We all know that voter suppression is a much more substantial issue and affects large numbers. Please join People For the American Way, an organization that affirms and works to preserve the fundamental values that define the American Way, in seeking to have a real investigation of this kind of voter fraud.

  1. While you are at it, the DNC wants to know who will stand with them to protect voter rights:

  1. And lastly, please take care of yourself.  We all need each other.  This is going to be a long and drawn out process.  Take some hints here on self-care lessons for the resistance:
