  1. Now that the Senate Judiciary Committee has voted 11-9 to approve Gorsuch, his confirmation moves to the full Senate later this week.  All the more important to follow this advice from The Loyal Opposition:  Call your senators and tell them the Senate should not move forward on President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee until the after the FBI’s investigation has concluded.  #NoProbeNoRobe  For more info:  https://www.theloyalopposition.net/daily-ctas/daily-call-to-action-april-3rd-2017/

  1. Should the Gorsuch vote go on, Democrats have secured the number necessary for a filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could still utilize the "nuclear option," effectively changing the rules and allowing Gorsuch to go through even with only 51 votes required, instead of the usual 60. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/04/03/democrats-just-took-the-filibuster-off-life-support/?tid=sm_fb&utm_term=.db56dca7e318  Let's contact Senator McConnell and tell him we oppose the nuclear option, and that if the majority cannot agree on a nominee, then a new one should be found. ***If you are a constituent, please mention that, and let him know that you will be keeping his actions in mind, come election year. Here is his D.C. 0ffice phone number:  (202) 224-2541 and his fax number:  (202) 224-2499

  1. Here’s a list of all the Twitter handles of our senators: http://www.socialseer.com/resources/us-senator-twitter-accounts/   If you are on Twitter, use these often!  If you are not on Twitter, considering joining now:  https://twitter.com/

  1. From the Orange Resistance:  Tweet to Paul Ryan that Rep. Devin Nunes Must Be Removed from the House Intelligence Committee Last month, U.S. Representative Devin Nunes—a member of Donald Trump's transition team and chair of the House Intelligence Committee—disclosed possible information about alleged White House surveillance to members of the press and the White House, prior to sharing it with members of his own committee. … Rep. Nunes appears to be in collusion with Trump to protect him from the investigation into his campaign's ties to Russia.  Tweet this:  @speakerryan Put #countrybeforeparty and remove Devin Nunes from the House Intelligence Committee. He's unfit to lead the investigation.

  1. Part of Trump's proposed budget includes major cuts to the National Institute of Health (NIH). Let's call our MoC and voice our support for the NIH. Contact information and call scripts available at 5calls: https://5calls.org/issue/reccIeP7zp3DB87f8

  1. As a direct response to Congress passing S.J. Res.34, Minnesota's Senate has passed legislation, which aims to protect its citizens' Internet privacy. Let's follow Minnesota's lead, and urge our State Legislators to pass similar legislation.  http://www.twincities.com/2017/03/29/minnesota-senate-passes-passes-internet-privacy-protections/  Find your legislators: https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/

  1. Last week, Trump signed an executive order that “revoked the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces order then-President Barack Obama put in place to ensure that companies with federal contracts comply with 14 labor and civil rights laws. The Fair Pay order was put in place after a 2010 Government Accountability Office investigation showed that companies with rampant violations were being awarded millions in federal contracts.”  http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/trump-pulls-back-obama-era-protections-women-workers-n741041 Let’s let our legislators know that we think these protections were good for workers and should be replaced by good legislation.

Other Actions

  1. Another creative approach from one of our own:  Two of Nunes’ top donors are BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD and EDISON (power/electricity).  https://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N00007248 These companies have millions of customers!  So, some friends and I have launched a campaign urging BC/BS and Edison customers to call the companies and tell them “Stop donating to Nunes until he stops shielding the President from investigations.”  We even made this funny rocking 90-second video to drive home the point:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl7L7s43EoY&feature=youtu.be

  1. For the techies among us, “Progressive Coders has mastered how to apply open source code, OSDI and CDN to progressive activism.”  Check this out: http://www.cio.com/article/3186516/cloud-computing/is-open-source-the-transformative-solution-for-activism.html

  1. If any of us live in Kansas, we can offer to drive people to the polls for the special election.  Jim Thompson, a civil rights lawyer, is running for the seat vacated by Pompeo who left to become Trump’s CIA director.  It’s another chance to turn a seat in Congress.  http://fortune.com/2017/02/12/jim-thompson-us-house-nominee/ Voting happens now through April 11:  http://www.votejamesthompson.com/drive

  1. As more MoC are hosting town hall events, their tactics for manipulating these proceedings is becoming more evident. Indivisible Guide has compiled a list of ways we can counter each tactic. Let's use this information to strategize as we head into April's congressional recess: http://bit.ly/2nUlEJn

  1. For those of us with high school students, the ACLU is sponsoring a Summer Advocacy Institute, which “will bring together a diverse group of students entering their junior and senior years of high school from across the United States to participate in an advanced, firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates. “  For more info, check here:  https://www.aclu.org/feature/aclu-summer-institute

  1. There is now a Virtual Tax March that allows us Americans living overseas to participate the 15 of Abril even from outside the country! It is a great action for those outside the USA organized by the resistance group American Resistance Sevilla.  https://americansresistingoverseas.com/2017/04/03/yes-grasshopper-you-are-the-virtualtaxmarch/  They even have a Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/190403231464218/

Let’s all thank Mercedes-Benz for pulling ads from Bill O’Reilly’s show on Fox News after the New York Times reported that settlements totaling $13 million had been reached with five women who accused O'Reilly of inappropriate behavior.  http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/03/media/mercedes-ads-bill-oreilly/index.html  Contact Mercedes-Benz here:  https://mercedes-benz.custhelp.com/app/ask or leave them a message on their FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/mercedesbenzusa/ or tweet them:  @MBUSA

Petitions to Sign

  1. Rep. King has introduced the Right to Work Act in the House.  Despite its name, it does not help workers.  Similar legislation has been passed 28 state legislatures, with devastating effects: The unionization rate in "right to work" states is less than half that of the rest of the country.  Let's join in on Democracy for America's petition to stop this bill:  https://petitions.signforgood.com/right-to-work

  1. Donald Trump's White House has been caught trying to influence the FBI RussiaGate investigation.  Let’s sign this petition for a special counsel independent investigation:    https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/appoint-a-special-counsel-to-investigate-trumps-russia-ties

  1. The Obama administration was worried enough about what might happen with the Russian investigation that it did its best to save certain documents and make them available: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/obama-officials-made-list-russia-probe-documents-keep-them-safe-n741146?cid=eml_nbn_20170331

  1. the Twitter handle list is a great idea--but it is a year old, and Kelly Ayotte, Harry Reid, and Mark Kirk, to name just three, are no longer in the Senate. What other seats changed in the 2016 election?
