Let's thank Senator Richard Blumenthal (202-224-2823) and Representative John Conyers Jr. (202-225-5126) for leading the charge. We can read the complaint to see if our MoC are among those who have filed the lawsuit, and either thank them for doing so, or ask them to join in as a congressional plaintiff http://bit.ly/2sovWnJ

Senators have struck a deal with bipartisan support to impose sanctions against Russia, while also limiting the president's power to lift sanctions without congressional approval and have passed (97-2) S.Amdt.232: To impose sanctions with respect to the Russian Federation and to combat terrorism and illicit financing http://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/14/senate-passes-russia-sanctions-trump-limits-239553?cmpid=sf  It sounds like it may be a bit tougher of a sell in the House. Looks like we need to call our Reps to let them know we want it to pass, and we can also thank our Senators for working across the aisle to move this forward.

  2. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-N.Y.) and other House LGBT Equality Caucus members reintroduced the LGBT Pride Act, which would provide funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to collect data on anti-LGBT violence and suicides: http://www.hrc.org/blog/the-lgbt-pride-act-would-combat-violence-suicide-in-lgbtq-community   We can tell our representatives that we support this bill and would like to see it move through committee during this session.

  1. Right now, more than 65 million people in the world are refugees, and 34,000 more people are displaced from their homes every day. (http://www.unhcr.org/576408cd7.pdf) Donald Trump wants to turn his back on them, but the need to take refugees into the United States has never been greater. The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which "works to defend and strengthen the freedoms of speech and the press in the digital age through strategic litigation, research, and public education," has written a letter to Trump demanding he stop blocking his constituents (the latest to be blocked by DT: author Stephen King!). It's not just Trump who is trying to infringe on the free speech of his constituents. If any of us have been blocked by our MoC (or DT for that matter), the Institute would like to know. Send an email to blockedonline@knightcolumbia.org with the following information: 1) screenshot of the post that you suspect led to your blocking, and 2) screenshot of the page showing you are blocked. Let's not let our elected officials get away with this!
