find out how to get online access through them.

Here's a chance for us to stand up against Trump's sham
voting commission. For background about the "Commission on Election
Integrity," which is headed by Kris Kobach, see: http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article149910457.html.
Voter fraud, a favorite topic of Kobach's, is not a real concern. Let's use
these simple instructions and script from Let America Vote to let Kobach know
what we think of his commission.

Three successive presidential administrations have
bypassed checks and balances on their war-making powers by citing the post-9/11
Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) (http://thehill.com/policy/defense/340066-lawmakers-applaud-after-panel-approves-language-revoking-war-authority).
It’s time for Congress to take this blank check for U.S. military
interventions away from Donald Trump. Let’s call our representatives in
Congress and demand they repeal the 2001 AUMF.

Yesterday, Eric Dreiband testified before the Senate
Judiciary Committee in his confirmation against civil rights protections, which
we can find detailed here http://bit.ly/2gOpIJQ The
NAACP has also spoken out against Dreiband's nomination, stating “The
evidence is clear. For the past 20 years, Dreiband has been on the wrong side
of issues pertaining to housing, hate crimes and the many other critical areas
that the Civil Rights Division oversees as part of its core
mission," http://bit.ly/2f7ATto Let's
call our senators and make sure that they plan on opposing Eric Dreiband as
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights.
4.
There are currently only 9 cosponsors for the Dream Act
of 2017; a bill which would save 800,000 DREAMers from deportation after the
DACA program is officially ended. Let's check and see if our senators have
cosponsored this legislation, and if they have, give them a big "thank
you" http://bit.ly/2gEgfkF If
they have not, let's call and ask why not, and be sure to let them know that
their constituents want this bill to be passed. We can also send a message to
our MoC through the ACLU's easy-to-use tool, with editable text http://bit.ly/2j9qqlA

"House GOP leaders won’t be allowing votes this
week on Democratic proposals to prevent taxpayer funds from benefiting
businesses owned by President Trump. Multiple Democrats had filed
amendments to a government spending package set to be considered on the House
floor this week to ensure the president is not personally enriched by the
federal government. But the House Rules Committee, which decides how
legislation is considered on the floor, declined to greenlight votes on any of
those proposals. "It is shameful that Republicans are allowing Trump to
profit off the Presidency. History will look back on the President's actions as
a brazen violation of our Constitution," Cohen said in a statement." http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/349490-gop-leaders-prevent-votes-to-ban-federal-spending-at-trump Let's call our REPS and tell them we don't
want Trump to bankrupt the treasury and profit off the backs of the
American People.

In yet another attempt to roll back regulations, the
House is currently looking to modify the ADA (Americans for Disabilities Act)
to make it more palatable to business and, in doing so, take a giant step back
in protecting those with disabilities. http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/politics/343880-passing-the-ada-education-and-reform-act-would-be-a-step There is talk that H.R. 620
(ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017) will soon be debated in the House
Judiciary Committee and voted on soon after.
Let’s contact our own reps as well as the committee members (https://judiciary.house.gov/subcommittee/full-committee)
to say we do not support this bill and want our disabled brothers and sisters
to be continued to be supported and their rights maintained.

Propaganda watch. Facebook may have been exploited by
unscrupulous Trump campaigners, and it certainly was exploited by phony Russian
accounts, to sway the outcome of the 2016 election. Now, ProPublica has a
crowdsourcing tool through which we can help track political ads. It’s called
the Political Ad Collector—PAC. To help, what we do is add a little piece of
software to our Chrome web browser. When we log into Facebook on Chrome, “the
tool will collect the ads displayed on the user’s news feed and guess which
ones are political based on an algorithm built by ProPublica”: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/facebook-political-ad-col/enliecaalhkhhihcmnbjfmmjkljlcinl Let’s
read what ProPublica has in mind and consider joining this important
anti-propaganda effort. https://www.propublica.org/article/help-us-monitor-political-ads-online

Obamacare enrollment: As the November 1, 2017, ACA
enrollment date approaches, people are going to need help choosing their plans
and signing up. The Trump administration has drastically cut funding for ACA
outreach and assistance—so let’s do what we can to help. Let’s share as widely
as possible The Connector, https://connector.getcoveredamerica.org/en-us/widget
This online tool lets people find local,
in-person assistance to help them sign up for health insurance.

It will take sustained action to remove the stain of
monuments to the Confederacy from our public spaces. Letters to the editor of
your local paper can be an important tool in these campaigns. The Southern
Poverty Law Center has provided directions for writing a letter to the editor
about Confederate monuments in our communities, including a map to find the
monuments nearest to us, suggested language and feedback forms. We can check
them out at this link: https://www.splcenter.org/news/2017/08/15/send-letter-its-time-take-down-confederate-monuments.

For those of us who would like to support the March to
Confront White Supremacy, but who are unable to make it to D.C., the organizers

Lawyers
For Good Government are putting out a call for lawyers to help volunteer
their time at DACA clinics across the country. The clinics will help DACA
recipients with their renewal applications until the official
deadline, October 5th. Individuals do not need to specialize in immigration
to volunteer http://bit.ly/2vJXvXe

"The recently pardoned former Maricopa County sheriff is
scheduled to be the guest speaker at the Fresno County Republican Party's late
September fundraiser. The Fresno Bee reported Arpaio was
invited before President Trump issued the pardon. Several people have
written letters to the editor to protest the event. Arpaio was convicted
in July of criminal contempt for violating a federal court order to stop racially
profiling Latinos in Arizona. He was scheduled to be sentenced on Oct.
5 and faced a maximum of six months in jail. Trump pardoned him in August.
Previous Fresno GOP barbecues have honored military and law enforcement
officials in the news. Last year's theme was "Blue Lives
Matter." Let's join others who wrote to the Fresno Bee editorial
page and tell them Joe doesn't belong in Fresno and he promotes racism in the
GOP. http://www.latimes.com/politics/essential/la-pol-ca-essential-politics-updates-joe-arpaio-1504648710-htmlstory.html Submit a letter to the Fresno Bee:

“The Off Fossil Fuels for a Better Future Act (OFF
Act), just introduced in the House of Representatives, is based on the
most recent climate science and is the strongest piece of climate
legislation introduced to date. It calls for a transition to 100%
renewable energy by 2035, with 80% of that by 2027, recognizing that swift
action in the next ten years is critical for avoiding the worst impacts of
climate change.” Let’s sign in agreement

"Chicago's Mayor has declared the city a
"Trump-free zone", after the US president ended protection for the
children of undocumented immigrants known as "dreamers". But in
a speech to young DACA recipients at Chicago's Solorio Academy
High School, mayor Rahm Emmanuel said: "To all the Dreamers that are here
in this room and the city of Chicago: you are welcome in the city of Chicago.
This is your home and you have nothing to worry about. He added: “Chicago, our
schools, our neighborhoods, our city, as it relates to what President Trump
said, will be a Trump-free zone. You have nothing to worry about. And I want
you to know this, and I want your families to know this. And rest assured, I
want you to come to school … and pursue your dreams.” http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/chicago-mayor-trump-free-zone-rahm-emanuel-daca-dreamers-programme-us-president-sanctuary-city-a7931646.html
