  1. From one of our own:  It's lunch time and I just called both my Democratic Senators (OR) to express my concerns that the White House has not asked Mike Flynn to step down from his position.  What he did by calling the Russian Ambassador to discuss sanctions was not only illegal but may rise to the level of treason.  Both offices noted that while it was concerning, they had not been overwhelmed with calls on this issue.  I am asking you to take a minute today to call your Senators and ask that at a minimum they ask for Flynn's resignation and commit to a renewed effort to investigate Trump/Pence's Russian ties.  45 claimed to know nothing about this.   http://www.newsweek.com/mike-flynn-security-risk-555642

  1. The full-Senate vote on Mnuchin for Treasury Secretary is on Monday.  Once again, there are significant issues: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/candidate-for-treasury-secretary-helped-run-bank-that-is-accused-of-bias/2016/11/17/6c7dab5e-acd6-11e6-a31b-4b6397e625d0_story.html?utm_term=.b170d3accc20  Call your senators and let them know your concerns.

  1. If the goal is to eliminate the EPA, Pruitt is the person to do the job.  Former EPA officials do not want him confirmed.  http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/318081-former-epa-employees-urge-senate-to-oppose-pruitt  If you agree, contact your senators to tell them so.

  1. On Thursday, Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX) introduced H.R.958 - To eliminate certain programs of the Environmental Protection Agency, and for other purposes. "Major EPA climate change programs would be eliminated under the measure. The legislation would also close all of the EPA’s regional offices, halt new regulations on ground-level ozone pollution and require the agency to lease unused property."  http://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/318931-gop-bill-would-gut-epa  Call your representative and ask them to oppose H.R. 958

  1. Call your Members of Congress. Ask them their Town Halls schedule. When there is no answer, tell them that as their constituent, you are requesting one immediately. If there is one scheduled, ask when the next one is.  Call back again every day.  After your calls, go to their email contacts page and write that you called to request a town hall and are waiting for the date. Tell your neighbors to do so, also.  When you get angry that they aren't meeting with you, call your local media. Tell them you have called repeatedly, etc.

  1. There are some reports that Rep. Chaffetz thinks that at least some of the protesters who showed up at his town hall this past week were paid protesters.  If you are from Utah, particularly his district, can you let him know your thoughts on this?  http://chaffetz.house.gov/contact/officeinformation.htm

  1. Send this spreadsheet to your legislators and tell them that you want to make sure they become part of this Town Hall Project: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yq1NT9DZ2z3B8ixhid894e77u9rN5XIgOwWtTW72IYA/htmlview?sle=true

  1. We now have a Secretary of Education who has demonstrated that she knows nothing about special education law. To make matters worse, we now have an Attorney General who once said that special needs children “are a big factor in accelerating the decline in civility and discipline in classrooms”, not to mention that he is racist enough for Coretta Scott King to have written a letter opposing him for a federal judgeship, for which he was not confirmed. 1. From on of our own:  I just wrote to Nordstrom and TJ Maxx on their Facebook pages thanking them for having the courage to drop Ivanka's clothing line.  They are getting a lot of pushback from Trump supporters.  But I assured them that those who are threatening to cut up their credit cards and boycott the stores do not compare to the customer base represented by the hundreds of thousands who marched across this country on Jan. 21.  So if you have a minute could you send them a thank you too. I would love to see their Facebook flooded with supportive posts to drown out the others!  And please spread the word.  Nordstrom’s FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/Nordstrom/  and TJ Maxx’s FB page:  https://www.facebook.com/tjmaxx/   Please refrain from joining in the nastiness of some of the comments.

  1. Let’s contact Sen. Warren to thank her for her diligence in speaking up on our behalf time and time again. Here is the 1986 letter from Coretta Scott King opposing Sessions that the GOP stopped Warren from reading during the discussion Tuesday evening.  It is one we all should read:  https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/3259988/Scott-King-1986-Letter-and-Testimony-Signed.pdf  The words of the letter are still relevant.

  1. From Michael Moore:  “Throughout my life I have watched Senators speak vile, hateful words about women, Black people, Vietnamese, Mexicans, young people, Arabs, environmentalists, peaceniks, gays and others -- but NEVER have I seen them vote to shut a single one of them up. Until last night, when Senator Elizabeth Warren attempted to read a letter from the late Coretta Scott King addressed to the United States Senate. That's when Warren was ruled to shut up and sit down. And when she appealed, the Republicans voted to silence her under "Rule 19." This morning you need to once again flood the Senate switchboard with angry, righteous calls demanding that the Senate take the virtual gag off her and let her speak. If we let them get away with this... you know what's coming. They are attempting to create an authoritarian, totalitarian state. If you've been hiding in your bubble, it's best to come out now. US Senate: 202-225-3121 or 202-224-3121. Keep dialing like your democracy depends on it. Let them know we are a large, massive, outraged nonviolent mob representing the majority of our country and we will not be Rule 19'd. We will Rule 19 them out of office! They need to know that the Women's March on Washington NEVER ends.”

3.       The Election Assistance Commission Termination Act, H.R.634 has passed committee. This independent agency is the only federal agency that makes sure voting machines can’t be hacked. 1. From Project 1461:  Remember how relentless Sen.Chaffetz was with Benghazi and and Clinton’s emails?  We need to let him know that we know he is not really doing his job right now.  Details here:   https://www.project1461.org/daily-call-to-action/tell-jason-chaffetz-were-still-paying-attention

  1. Regarding the DeVos vote, give your senators a call and let them know you're paying attention. Thank them if they voted against her, and let them know you're holding them accountable if they voted "aye" and that you'll remember their vote come re-election.  The future of ALL our children’s education is in their hands.

  1. Shortly after the DeVos vote, a bill was introduced in the house to eliminate the Department of Education with the reasoning that the appropriate policy makers for education are those at the state and local level.

  1. Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA)  H.J. Res. 53, a joint resolution that will remove the deadline and finally allow for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). “When asked, 96 percent of Americans think that women and men should have equal rights, and 88 percent believe that our Constitution should affirm those rights, while 72 percent of Americans mistakenly believe the Constitution already includes such a guarantee,” Rep. Speier said. “Given the current political climate, and the overwhelming support, it’s clear that the ERA is still a necessity. As the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia explained in a Supreme Court opinion, ‘Certainly the Constitution does not require discrimination on the basis of sex. The only issue is whether it prohibits it. It doesn’t.’”https://speier.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congresswoman-speier-introduces-resolution-ratify-equal-rights-amendment Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) introduced companion legislation two weeks earlier. H.J. Res. 53 currently has 135 cosponsors.  Contact your legislators and tell them to get on board with this.  The time is long past for this to be the law of the land.

  1. From the Weekly Resistance:  Trump's Muslim and refugee ban is bigoted, dangerous, cruel and un-American. We cannot let it stand. But Congressional Republican leadership isn't allowing action on Democratic efforts to get rid of it once and for all. So we're calling Congress and demanding they use every tool they have to force a vote on ending the ban for good. Go here for all the details:  http://www.weekly-resistance.online/

  1. Donald Trump campaigned for President on a promise to obstruct and derail action on climate change at every level. And, so far, his Administration is doing just that. From cabinet picks to policy statements (or tweets), it’s clear the Trump Administration’s goal is to undermine progress on climate change.   It’s up to us to make sure that doesn’t happen. Please join Greenpeace in members of Congress on notice that you expect them to protect the commitments made under the Paris Agreement to fight climate change and that you’ll be holding them accountable.  https://secure3.convio.net/gpeace/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=2059
