NEXT COVID RELIEF BILL IN THE WORKS: ”Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Democrats are charging ahead this week with the next round of emergency coronavirus relief — another massive, multitrillion-dollar package designed to buttress the economy against the devastating pandemic.” https://thehill.com/homenews/house/497166-the-8-key-provisions-expected-in-democrats-next-covid-19-bill  We know that Trump and the GOP do not feel any more help is needed, but most states, businesses, and citizens do.  Let’s contact our MoCs to let them know that we support this new help. So many people are hurting.

COVID IN THE WHITE HOUSE:  There have been more diagnoses of COVID within the White House.  Despite warnings and recommendations Trump and Pence have purposefully not worn masks no matter where they were. https://apnews.com/79b5a52979f32de0056e36e6065802b4  and
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/11/mike-pence-quarantine-coronavirus-white-house  Late yesterday afternoon, however, the White House did an about face and is now requiring the staff to wear masks.  Trump is not expected to comply. We know this is too late to be helpful.  https://www.politico.com/news/2020/05/11/white-house-instructs-staff-wear-masks-249204   Let’s contact our MoC to ask how we are going to get out of this nightmare with a black hole of leadership and a disregard for science.

TELL THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT TO ISSUE A HATE CRIMES CHARGE AGAINST AHMAUD ABERYS’ KILLERS AND INVESTIGATE THE COVERUP:  Events have moved rapidly in the  days since the country was shocked by the videotaped murder of African American jogger Ahmaud Arbery by two white men and the miscarriage of justice following it. The two killers have been arrested and denied bail. Georgia Attorney General Carr has asked the DOJ to investigate the case and the way local law enforcement officials and prosecutors mishandled it, and appointed, a fourth prosecutor, African American Joyette M. Holmes of Cobb County, to oversee the case. Now the Justice Department is considering its options, including whether to charge this as a hate crime https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/doj-consider-possible-federal-hate-crime-charges-ahmaud-arbery-shooting-n1204531  Georgia is one of four states in this country that don't have a hate crime law.  We can call the Department of Justice and our Representatives and demand that a hate crimes charge be issued in this case and that a full federal investigation into misconduct in all areas of this case be held.

COVID RISK:  As we see some states opening, we see that their numbers are not particularly good.  https://www.endcoronavirus.org/states  While some state governments are providing trustworthy information and data, many are not.  Erin Bromage, an Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, whose specialty is Infection and Immunology shares with us how to know and avoid the risks with this disease.  Let’s read it here:  https://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them

BARR DISGRACED:  “Nearly 2,000 former Justice Department and FBI officials on Monday signed an open letter strongly critical of Attorney General William Barr's decision to abandon the prosecution of Michael Flynn, calling the action "extraordinarily rare, if not unprecedented."”  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/2-000-former-doj-fbi-officials-call-barr-resign-over-n1204601  Let’s contact the Justice Department asking for Barr’s resignation and let’s also contact our MoCs asking for his impeachment.  Let’s also sign this:  https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/impeach-remove-attorney-general-barr/

5-YEAR-OLD DETAINEE: Every Last One has had a lot of success getting kids like 5-year-old Aliana out of detention, but it's not easy, and public pressure is often the thing that moves the needle the most. That and money, of course. Lots of it.  But truly, when the government knows that thousands of people are following a detained child’s story it helps get them released. Every second counts for this kiddo. Let’s all sign here:  https://www.everylastone.org/aliana and follow them on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/EveryLastOne1  (h/t Chop Wood Carry Water)

TRAINING AND JOBS AVAILABLE FOR COVID-19 CONTACT TRACERS: “To halt the spread of covid-19 as states reopen, we need a network of contact tracers — people who are trained to track and notify possibly infected individuals and map their exposures to others.  “Contact tracers are … part detective, part therapist and part social worker,” said one epidemiologist. Many contact tracers will be needed. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/contact-tracing-jobs-covid/  To address the need, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health designed an online course. Here's how you can take it and help fight the spread.” Here is the course link: https://www.coursera.org/learn/covid-19-contact-tracing?edocomorp=covid-19-contact-tracing

HELP THE NAVAJO NATION RESPOND TO COVID OUTBREAKS: The Navajo Nation has more incidences of COVID per capita than any state in the U.S. https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/497091-navajo-nation-has-more-coronavirus-cases-per-capita-than-any-us-state. This is due to a chronic housing shortage, lack of running water and a greater percentage of the population with health conditions. https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-health/2020/04/23/coronavirus-pandemic-how-donate-navajo-nation-covid-19-news/3013122001/. The Navajo Nation Covid Relief Fund  is accepting monetary and non-monetary donations. Let’s check them out and think about how we can help.

SUPPORT THE RIGHT OF THE SIOUX TRIBE TO PROTECT THEIR RESERVATION AGAINST COVID: South Dakota is one of the few states with no stay-at-home restrictions and their governor is insisting that the Sioux Tribe take down checkpoints that prevent travelers from COVID hotspots from entering the reservation. https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-52615311. The Tribe is insisting that these actions are necessary to protect the people on the reservation, where there is limited access to health care. Let’s contact South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem (@govkristinoem) and tell her that we support the rights of the Sioux to make decisions about their own land. Let’s also tweet messages of support to the Chairman of the Sioux Tribe, Harold Frazer (@CRSTChairman).

#JUSTICE FOR AHMAUD:  While the suspects have finally been arrested in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, most feel it is because the video was somehow released, and the world saw what happened in late February.  When the local officials did not make the arrest, the state stepped in. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/05/07/ahmaud-arbery-video-shooting-arrests-justice-mcmichael/3086891001/  Let’s join in with Color of Change in asking for the removal from office the “two DAs who recused themselves District Attorney Jackie Johnson and District Attorney George Barnhill further perpetuated the mismanagement of Ahmaud's case.”  We can sign here:  https://act.colorofchange.org/sign/demand-justice-ahmaud

NO FILLING SUPREME COURT VACANCIES IN AN ELECTION YEAR: In 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to conduct hearings for Merrick Garland, President Obama’s nominee, claiming that the people should have their say in an election year. Now, however, McConnell has shown the true extent of his hypocracy by pledging to fill any Supreme Court vacancy that might arise in 2020. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/05/08/republicans-ready-supreme-court-vacancy-243574. Let’s ask our Senators to pledge to consistency and make sure that once again the people weigh in on who should be on the Supreme Court by waiting until after the election.

COVID AND THE DIGITAL DIVIDE: many K-12 and university students, as well as other vulnerable populations, are being left out in the cold under stay at home orders, unable to access technology and internet connectivity. “The COVID-19 pandemic has proven that the technology we need to stay connected is a right, not a privilege.” Let’s make sure our local government is doing something about it. If not, then this petition to the City of Philadelphia can give us an idea of what questions we should be asking:  https://phillytechjustice.org/

NOT TOO LATE FOR A MOTHER’S DAY BAIL-OUT:  COVID-19 continues to spread unchecked to folks behind bars - 192 out of 195 women in a Louisiana prison dormitory were found to have contracted the disease (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/louisana-prison-unit-has-192-of-195-inmates-test-positive-for-covid-19-2020-05-05). You can't socially distance in prison or jail, so let's do what we can to help get folks who don't need to be incarcerated out and safe. National Bail Out is raising money to get Black mothers and caregivers out of jail by Mother's Day - we can contribute to their efforts here.

ENVIRONMENTAL RULES DECIMATED DURING PANDEMIC:  The coronavirus pandemic has provided a handy distraction from the wholesale destruction of environmental regulation undertaken by federal agencies, with Trump’s approval; some of these are enumerated in The Guardian: “agencies have eased fuel-efficiency standards for new cars; frozen rules for soot air pollution; proposed to drop review requirements for liquefied natural gas terminals; continued to lease public property to oil and gas companies; sought to speed up permitting for offshore fish farms; and advanced a proposal on mercury pollution from power plants that could make it easier for the government to conclude regulations are too costly to justify their benefits. The government has also relaxed reporting rules for polluters during the pandemic”: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/may/10/trump-environmental-blitzkrieg-coronavirus The EPA has, moreover, proposed only weak limits on airplane pollution and tried to create a relief package for oil and gas corporations.  The NY Times has listed 98 such changes t0 environmental regulation:  https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/climate/trump-environment-rollbacks.html Trump is in a hurry because the Congressional Review Act makes it easier to rescind such rollbacks if they are issued late in an election year.  Let’s make sure the White House and our MoCs know that we are NOT distracted and, especially as covid-19 sweeps the country, depend on a clean environment where we can breathe, drink, and eat without fear.

HORRIFYING DRUG PRICES:  Where they could find data, a study published in the Journal of Virus Eradication compared the prices globally of possible covid-19 treatments now in clinical trial: http://viruseradication.com/journal-details/Minimum_costs_to_manufacture_new_treatments_for_COVID-19/  The study calculates what a generic version of these drugs might cost in different places; for example, a course of hepatitis C drug, Sofosvbuvir, which costs about $5 to produce, sells currently in the US for $18,610: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/may/11/soaring-drug-prices-could-bar-access-to-future-coronavirus-treatments The comparative costs revealed by this study are obscene.  We must make it clear to our MoCs and to the FDA that we will not tolerate only the rich in the US having access to potentially life-saving drugs.

Correction:  PROTECTION FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS: Essential workers are on the frontlines of this pandemic, with many working in high-risk conditions without appropriate equipment, safety standards, or job protections. These workers put their lives on the line every day, and we must do all we can to protect their health and financial security. Fortunately,  Senator Elizabeth Warren has a plan to ensure our workers get what they need: 1) Truly  universal paid sick leave and family and medical leave, health and safety protections, including personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by employers at no cost to workers, 2) Protections for collective bargaining agreements &  whistleblowers with safety concerns, and healthcare security to ensure all essential workers get the care they need during this crisis, regardless of their immigration status.3) Robust funding to help struggling child care providers during this pandemic and reliable, safe, healthy, and high-quality child care for essential workers.  https://www.businessinsider.com/elizabeth-warren-plan-essential-workers-coronavirus-higher-wages-sick-leave-2020-4  When we click this link, we can get key talking points and be connected to our Representatives to demand the House pass protection for essential workers:  https://elizabethwarren.com/action/essential-workers/call-for-bor

FREE ONLINE THERAPY FOR FRONTLINE HEALTH PROVIDERS: Project Parachute is a group providing free online therapy for frontline healthcare workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. They have matched almost 200 frontliners with licensed, experienced, volunteer therapists around the country and, with over 600 therapists ready to help, they are able to serve many more. If we are frontline healthcare workers, or if we know people who are, we can find out more and signup for free online therapy here. We can also spread the word though social media to aid healthcare workers affected by this crisis.  https://project-parachute.org/

POSTCARDING OPPORTUNITIES:  From one of our own:  Here are this week's postcarding write-ups. As always, please use them, share them, distribute them. These times are overwhelming, but speaking out (even just a little) is much more empowering than remaining silent.  We can use this link to the write-ups:

ELECTION/VOTING

REMINDER:   Let’s make sure to regularly check our voter registration status. States are purging voters routinely--we don't want to get caught off guard. Take 1 minute and check right now: I Will Vote  Then, let’s check how to vote by mail in our state. Many rules have changed due to the pandemic and we may be able to vote with a mailed ballot. We can find our state's latest voting rules here: How to Vote By Mail in Every State

CA: SPECIAL ELECTION TODAY:  Christy Smith, the Democratic candidate is in a tough spot.  We need to keep this seat in the House, the CA-25. https://www.npr.org/2020/05/10/852735326/democrats-fear-losing-u-s-house-special-election-in-southern-california  We in this California district have the chance to send a message to the country – we do not want the GOP leading us.  Vote today. Mail your ballot today:  https://www.ca25specialelection.com/

NE: PRIMARY TODAY:  Nebraska is holding the nation’s first in-person election in more than a month. We can read more at Time. Many Nebraskans have decided to vote by mail. The NE secretary of state’s office says that over 321,000 mail-in ballots have already been returned, which surpasses the total voting in the 2016 presidential primary. (More at NET Nebraska/PBS) If we are Nebraska voters who have not yet voted, let's make a plan to vote as safely as we can.

VOTE BY MAIL FLORIDA. Postcards to Voters' volunteers continue to write to Florida registered Democrats to encourage them to enroll in Vote By Mail. The campaign continues with Brevard County (Melbourne area) on the Southeast coast. Let's request 5 addresses today to help with this effort. #MailTheVoteFL

P2V ELECTION WATCH: Postcards to Voters' (P2V) volunteers will be watching returns for two May 12 special elections for which they wrote: 1) CA: Campaign 198: Christy Smith for Congress;  2) WI: Campaign 199: Tricia Zunker for Congress. Let's see who the voters in these districts chose to represent them.

STATE/LOCAL

CA: VOTE BY MAIL! "California Governor Gavin Newsom on Friday signed an executive order to ensure every registered voter in the state is automatically mailed a ballot for the November presidential election. The executive order does not replace in-person voting, Newsom said during a press conference." Let's read more at CBS News. We can send thank you's to Gov. Newsome at the contact information from his website:  https://govapps.gov.ca.gov/gov40mail/.

MA, NY, DE, CT, NJ, RI, PA: RACIAL DISPARITIES/COVID-19: Many states are lacking transparency and information that is crucial to properly address inequity as we fight Covid-19 (https://53eig.ht/3fEXJX6). Faith in Action has published a letter to the northeast coalition of governors, calling out racial disparities and lack of sufficient racial demographic data in each of the states. Let's read through the letter, then join Faith in Action in asking our northeast state governors to coordinate a regional response through data, criminal justice, door-to-door testing, contact tracing in the most at-risk communities, no-cost treatment and testing for residents, cash and food assistance, a moratorium on evictions, and universal vote-by-mail.

MO: MISSOURI WANTS TO BRING BACK PARTISAN GERRYMANDERING:  Republican legislators in Missouri are trying to gut a 2018 referendum approved by 62% of the state’s voters that put a non-partisan demographer in charge of drawing electoral districts, made partisan fairness his or her top priority, and was designed to prevent excessive gerrymandering; MO Republicans want a new referendum that would undo all these protections and would, furthermore, draw the new district lines based not on total population, as has always been the case, but only on those eligible to vote--a standard that would disadvantage cities (more likely to include non-citizens in their populations), advantage white rural areas, and satisfy a long-standing Republican aim.  Those of us in Missouri should tell our state legislators what we think of this Republican ploy, and the rest of us should tell Gov. Michael Parson: P.O. Box 720. Jefferson City, MO 65102 or (573) 751-3222 or Fax: (573) 751-1495.

SD: INDIGENOUS RIGHTS: Governor Kristi Noem sent a letter to Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and the Oglala Sioux Tribe officials on Friday, warning them to remove Covid-19 checkpoints within 48 hours, or face legal action (https://bit.ly/2SVejZ1). A bipartisan group of South Dakota legislators have sent a letter to the Governor, arguing for tribal jurisdiction over its own lands, and against Noem's threats. Let's join the Indigenous People's Movement, Lakota leaders, and South Dakota legislators in calling on Governor Noem to stand down and respect Lakota sovereignty: Mailing Address: Office of the Governor, 500 East Capitol Avenue, Pierre, S.D. 57501, Phone Number: (605) 773-3212, Fax Number: (605) 773-4711, or Email here.

RALLIES/GATHERINGS/TRAININGS/GROUP ACTIONS/TWEETSTORMS

LEARN TO FIGHT ONLINE DISINFORMATION: One of the best ways we can combat the spread of disinformation online is by telling our personal stories in these online spaces and communities. Join Democratic National Training Committee on May 12 from 2-3 PDT for this virtual training and they’ll give us some best practices and explain how we can best do this work! We can find out more and sign up here:  https://events.democrats.org/event/272013

LEARN HOW TO SPOT CONSPIRACY THEORIES:  On Thursday, May 14 at 12 noon MDT, we can join Vanessa Otero of AdFontes Media and the creator of the Media Bias Chart, to learn more about recognizing conspiracy theories.  We need to register here for the Zoom event:  https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqduisrDwjHNMUE9EnFaQ4FYOvgLcCACoK

ACLU SMART JUSTICE CAMPAIGN WEBINAR:  The ACLU Smart Justice campaign has decided to host a digital day of action titled “Uniting for Pretrial Reform” in May. It will be online, and it will be throughout the day on May 27th. Some of the sessions include a Q&A with ACLU staff, a tele-townhall with multiple legislators (on the topic of pretrial reform), a storytelling panel in the afternoon, and throughout the day there will be multiples ways to engage our elected officials.  Here’s a registration link to sign up! https://zoom.us/webinar/register/1415859446055/WN_Wb92iZkTRGmkTJlHepNcIg  We want to make sure that people feel their voices can be heard even during this new normal phase we currently we find ourselves in and that we advocate for the most vulnerable of us.

MASS POOR PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY & MORAL MARCH ON WASHINGTON: “The Mass Poor People’s Assembly & Moral March on Washington is going digital! On June 20th, we will hold the largest digital and social media gathering of poor and low-wealth people, moral and religious leaders, advocates, and people of conscience in this nation’s history. A global pandemic is exposing even more the already existing crisis of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy and militarism, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. On June 20, the 140 million poor and low-wealth people across this nation will be heard!”  We can sign up here:  https://actionnetwork.org/forms/rsvp-for-june-20-2020-mass-poor-peoples-assembly-moral-march-on-washington

On Mondays, Rogan’s List features a listing of proposed rule and regulation changes that are currently accepting public comment.  Commenting is the way to show government agencies how we feel about these proposed changes. Our comments also become part of a record that will be reviewed by courts if and when a reg change is contested. Courts use comments to judge whether an agency is acting arbitrarily and capriciously.

    Organization

Closing Soon
Recent
Section I - ICE, DHS, DOL, NLRB
Section II - everything environmental - EPA, BLM, DOE
Section III - Civil rights, housing, education, healthcare
Other: More on regulations (tracking the trackers/general information)

(Note: After a couple of weeks items are moved from “Recent” and “Closing soon” into the Roman numeral sections. A note on regulatory processes: there are three stages - Notice, Proposed Rule, and Rule. There’s usually a time lag of a few months to a few years between them, and they must be published in the Federal Register before appearing on Regulations.gov. Comment time varies from 10 days to 2 months, sometimes with extensions.)

This week’s list - closing is misnamed Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science, extension of comment period for collecting biometric data on undocumented persons, Trump's ordering meatpacking workers back to work under Defense Production Act as cases and deaths mount, allowing SBA loans to religious organizations and more. Under new - over 350 COVID-!9 emergency notices and proposed rules, some temporary (moving target) and sweeping proposals to review Obama-era Small Business Admin regulations affecting minority, veteran and women-owned businesses. This is a partial list. Also, over-riding Oregon EPA to allow LNG pipeline to Coos Bay.

VOTE AGAINST CONFIRMATION OF JUDGE JUSTIN WALKER AND INVESTIGATE UNETHICAL ACTIONS BY SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL TO FURTHER PACK FEDERAL COURTS: A group called Demand Justice has filed a legal complaint and asked the courts to investigate the sudden retirement of a judge on the DC Court of Appeals leaving Trump an opening to nominate young conservative judge while he and the Republican Senate is still in power.  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/04/us/politics/senate-confirmation-justin-walker.html?. Despite the ongoing investigation into the allegations that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell acted unethically in persuading the former judge on the court to retire, the confirmation hearing is still scheduled to begin in a couple of days. Let’s tell our Senators to vote against this confirmation, especially in light of the circumstances surrounding this supposed sudden opening on the court.

NO PAYROLL TAX CUT IN NEXT CORONAVIRUS RELIEF BILL: Trump is insisting that a payroll tax cut is a “must-have” in the next, as yet unwritten, coronavirus relief bill; this tax, paid by both employees and employers, is essential to the long-term health of Social Security and Medicare:  https://thehill.com/policy/finance/496286-battle-brewing-over-how-to-get-more-relief-money-to-americans  We have long known that Republicans would love to see these “entitlement” programs fail; Trump and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin know that a payroll tax cut offers a way to kill two birds with one stone:  such a cut would put billions into the pockets of some businesses while simultaneously decimating Social Security just at the moment when it is most critical to the aging population.  What it would not do is put significant money in the hands of the individual consumers on whom Trump is counting to save the economy: https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertfarrington/2020/05/04/the-winners-and-losers-of-trumps-payroll-tax-cut-proposal/#4d5dfffb3a16  Even some Republicans are balking.  Let’s make it clear to our MoCs that NO payroll tax cut is our “must-have.”

NATIVE AMERICANS AND COVID:  Navajo Nation is one of the worst hotspots for COVID-19 in the entire United States, and poverty and underlying health conditions make many Native Americans particularly vulnerable to this disease. But tribes are being forced to deal with far too much red tape to get the resources they've been allocated to fight the pandemic, and they already weren't given as much funding as they needed.  https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/495887-underfunded-native-nations-battle-coronavirus-outbreaks When medical supplies were requested for Native Americans in Washington state, body bags were sent instead.  https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/native-american-health-center-asked-covid-19-supplies-they-got-n1200246 Let's contact our members of Congress and tell them we want them to help break down the obstacles to tribal governments getting the support they've been appropriated and to fight for more funding for their efforts in future coronavirus relief bills.

CALL THE HOUSE TO DEMAND PROTECTION FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS: Essential workers are on the frontlines of this pandemic, with many working in high-risk conditions without appropriate equipment, safety standards, or job protections. These workers put their lives on the line every day, and we must do all we can to protect their health and financial security. Fortunately,  Senator Elizabeth Warren has a plan to ensure our workers get what they need: 1) Truly  universal paid sick leave and family and medical leave, health and safety protections, including personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by employers at no cost to workers, 2) Protections for collective bargaining agreements & whistleblowers with safety concerns.care security to ensure all essential workers get the care they need during this crisis, regardless of their immigration status.3) Robust funding to help struggling child care providers during this pandemic and reliable, safe, healthy, and high-quality child care for essential workers.  https://www.businessinsider.com/elizabeth-warren-plan-essential-workers-coronavirus-higher-wages-sick-leave-2020-4  When we click this link, we can get key talking points and be connected to our Representatives to demand the House pass protection for essential workers:  https://elizabethwarren.com/action/essential-workers/call-for-bor

NO LIABILITY PROTECTION FOR BUSINESSES:  Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced his opposition to what he calls “a blue state bailout”—leaving coronavirus hot spots like NY and NJ, if they happen to be led by Democrats, to adopt extreme austerity measures to compensate for public health costs; now, he has announced that liability protection for businesses constitutes a Republican “red line” in plans for a third coronavirus relief package: https://www.usnews.com/news/economy/articles/2020-05-05/liability-protection-looms-over-next-coronavirus-stimulus-package Such protections from liability would leave vulnerable workers—like those Trump has forced back to work in meat processing plants—with no recourse if their employers fail to ensure workplace safety.  We must make our opposition to liability protection for employers known by our MoCs in no uncertain terms.  And we might make our views known, too, to the US Chamber of Commerce, which shares McConnell’s view: https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/05/05/850720292/u-s-chamber-of-commerce-businesses-are-worried-about-getting-sued-as-they-reopen; the Chamber can be contacted at 202-659-6000 or 1615 H Street, NW, Washington DC 20062-2000

RACIAL DISPARITIES/COVID-19: Senator Kamala Harris and Representative Robin Kelly have introduced the COVID-19 Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force Act to both chambers of Congress (https://bit.ly/35Jke8Q). The legislation would "require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to establish an interagency task force of policy experts, community leaders, and government officials to make data-driven recommendations to federal agencies about directing crucial resources—like testing kits, testing supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE)—to communities with racial and ethnic disparities in COVID-19 infection, hospitalization and death rates," (https://bit.ly/3cczHk3). The bill has not yet been numbered, but let's take the time to read through it, then tell our MoC that we want them to cosponsor and support this crucial legislation.

VOTE BY MAIL:  “If the federal and state governments do not prepare to hold general elections amid the coronavirus pandemic, the United States government could be forced to rely on rules of succession that have never been used, in circumstances the framers never imagined.”  https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/what-if-coronavirus-cancels-election-answer-will-make-you-want-ncna1195791  We’ve relied on vote-by-mail for our military since after the Civil War.  https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-voting-by-mail-bad-but-troops-vote-that-way-2020-4  Let’s remind our MoCs (federal and state) that it is time to move to this safer way of voting.

#FREEBLACKMAMAS:  National Bail Out is a collective of organizations, including Color of Change, Dream Defenders, The Movement for Black Lives, and others, who focus on pretrial detention and mass incarceration. They provide fellowship and run projects such as the annual Mama's Bail Out Day, which posts bail for mothers who would otherwise be separated from their children on Mother's Day. For those of us who are able, let's be sure to help get these moms home to their families this Mother's Day: bit.ly/freeblackmamas2020

ICE IS BRINGING COVID TO SMALL TOWNS: ICE’s policy of transferring detainees to detention centers in the rural south is bringing increased incidences of COVID and overwhelming the medical support structures in these communities. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/05/05/coronavirus-ice-detention-rural-communities-186688. This is one more reason to tell our MoCs and state legislators to speak out publicly on releasing all ICE detainees that do not have violent criminal records, rather than randomly transferring them to sensitive and vulnerable rural areas.

HHS WHISTLEBLOWER: Dr. Rick Bright, former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), released a statement claiming that he was removed from his positions at the Department of Health and Human Services and "involuntarily transferred," after resisting pressure to promote widespread use of hydroxychloroquine (https://bit.ly/2Lib1el). Dr. Bright is requesting that the Inspector General of the HHS investigate "the manner in which this Administration has politicized the work of BARDA and has pressured [him] and other conscientious scientists to fund companies with political connections as well as efforts that lack scientific merit," (https://cnn.it/2W8xOiR).Acting HHS Inspector General Christi Grimm is also set to be replaced after publishing a report that detailed shortages of personal protective equipment throughout the U.S. Let's contact the office of the Inspector General, and ask them to begin an investigation ASAP: Office of the Inspector General, 330 Independence Avenue, S.W.; Washington, D.C. 20201, Phone Number: (202) 619-3148.

THE LINCOLN PROJECT’S LATEST VIDEO: A prominent and motley crew of Never Trumper Republicans called The Lincoln Project have released their latest anti-Trump video titled “Mourning in America” and in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, Trump went on a Tweet rage about it: https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/trump-s-twitter-rant-against-lincoln-project-s-mourning-america-ncna1200881   Let’s share the video via social media to keep it front and center and under the skin of our unfit leader:  https://lincolnproject.us/news/mourning-america/

ELECTION/VOTING

REMINDER:   Regularly check your voter registration status. States are purging voters routinely--you don't want to get caught off guard. Take 1 minute and check right now: I Will Vote  Then, check how to vote by mail in your state. Many rules have changed due to the pandemic and you may be able to vote with a mailed ballot. Find your state's latest voting rules here: How to Vote By Mail in Every State

CALIFORNIA SPECIAL ELECTION:  The New York Times has declared Tuesday's special election for the House seat in California's 25th District to be a "microcosm of the country's politics amid the health crisis" and "an early test of Trump's sway." Trump is pushing hard for the Republican, conservative defense contractor Mike Garcia, while everyone from Hillary to Elizabeth Warren to Barack Obama is backing Democratic Assemblywoman Christy Smith (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/05/us/politics/california-christy-smith-mike-garcia-trump.html). We have an opportunity to send a message to the country - let's make sure it's the right one by volunteering to make phone calls or text for Christy Smith here.

HELP UNSEAT A GOP SENATOR:  A new poll came out in Iowa suggesting that Senator Joni Ernst may be more vulnerable than previously thought. Ernst, who has marched in lockstep with Mitch McConnell in backing Trump and cutting taxes for the wealthy, has only a 37% approval rating, and led the Democratic frontrunner by only one point.  https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/495937-poll-ernst-lead-evaporates-in-iowa-senate-race  Let's take action to help unseat Joni Ernst. We can donate to a fund for the Democratic nominee being selected June 2nd here.

VOTE BY MAIL FLORIDA. Postcards to Voters' volunteers continue to write to Florida registered Democrats to encourage them to enroll in Vote By Mail. The campaign continues with St. Lucie County (Port St. Lucie area) on the Southeast coast. Let's request 5 addresses today to help with this effort. #MailTheVoteFL

NEBRASKA PRIMARY: TUES. MAY 12. Nebraska is forging ahead with plans to hold the nation’s first in-person election in more than a month, despite health concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and allegations that political motivations are fueling opposition to an all-mail approach. We can read more at Time. If we are Nebraska voters, let's make a plan to vote as safely as we can.

WEST VIRGINIA PRIMARY: JUNE 9. The West Virginia primary originally schedule for May 12 has been postponed to June 9. Over one million registered voters in West Virginia have or will be receiving absentee ballot applications in the mail, allowing them the opportunity to apply to vote by mail in this year’s primary election. We can read more at WV Metro News. If we are West Virginia voters, let's make a plan to return our ballots quickly after we receive them.

CALIFORNIA SPECIAL ELECTION. In-person voting kicked off Saturday, May 2 for the May 12 special election in California's 25th District to fill Katie Hill's seat. The district includes parts of northern LA County including Santa Clarita, Palmdale and Lancaster, as well as parts of Ventura County near Simi Valley. Postcard to Voters' volunteers wrote to get out the vote for Democrat Christy Smith (Campaign 198). We can read more at abc7. If we are voters in this district, let's make a plan to vote as safely as we can.

WISCONSIN SPECIAL ELECTION. The Wisconsin Elections Commission reports that more than 44% of people who requested absentee ballots for a May 12 special congressional election in northern Wisconsin have returned them. (Source: WMTV nbc15) Postcards to Voters' volunteers wrote to Democratic voters in this district with Campaign 199: Tricia Zunker for Congress. If we are Wisconsin 7th congressional district voters, let's mark and return our absentee ballots today or make a plan to vote as safely as we can on Tuesday, May 12.

MA--SUBMIT COMMENTS TO THE RE-OPENING TASK FORCE, ADVOCATING FOR EXTREME CAUTION: Massachusetts has put together a task force, which is collecting feedback to develop a plan to “re-open” the state. Let’s make sure to tell them it would be extremely dangerous and premature to reopen business before, at the very least, 14 consecutive days of downward trending infection and death rates and insist that they make public health, their primary consideration, not the economy. We can submit comments on this form.

MI—NO GUNS IN THE STATE CAPITOL: “Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer wants to bar weapons from being brought into the state Capitol after anti-lockdown protesters showed up with firearms, she told NBC News in a wide-ranging interview.”  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/michigan-gov-whitmer-wants-ban-guns-capitol-after-armed-anti-n1200296  Let’s let our state MoCs know that we agree with Governor Whitmer.  Guns are not allowed in our courts nor in the U.S. Congress.  They are not necessary in our state Capitol building either.

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES WEBINAR:  Today, May 7 at 5pm ET - “With no opportunity for in-person campaign activities, the ability to connect with your base over social media is more valuable than ever.  Ampersand Strategies President Josh Nanberg talks to Beth Becker, founder of Becker Digital Strategies, about social media strategy for nonprofit, advocacy, and political clients.”  We can sign up here for this free webinar.

REPRODUCTIVE ACCESS IN THE COVID AGE WEBINAR: “Please join The Women's March and #VOTEPROCHOICE for a webinar discussing the fight for reproductive freedom in this time. An expert panel will cover the status of COVID abortion bans in various states, the upcoming Supreme Court ruling in June and more. Additionally, the panel will provide solutions for those working to access services and other practical actions we can all take.” The webinar is today, May 7 at 8pm ET.   They highly encourage candidates, current officeholders (especially those in the six states with current abortion bans AL, IA, OH, OK, TN + TX), and all others who are concerned about ensuring fair access to reproductive health services.  We can RSVP here:  https://bit.ly/WMReproWebinar

GET TRAINED IN VIRTUAL FUNDRAISING: If we are running for office, working on a campaign, or building our local party’s or organization’s infrastructure, we need to raise money, but how can we do this when we can’t meet in person? The National Democratic Training Committee is here to help! We can join them on Friday, May 8th from 1pm-2pm EST for a free virtual live training on “Fundraising When You Can’t Meet in Person”.  During this fundraising session, their trainer will train us on effective best practices to raise money when we can’t meet in person and answer our questions. An email with directions and login information will be sent out by prior to the virtual live training. We can sign up for this Virtual Fundraising Live Training On Zoom, Friday May 8, 2020 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm (ET) here:  https://traindemocrats.org/event/fundraising-when-you-cant-meet-in-person-05-08-2020/

NEED FOR NEXT COVID-RELIF BILL: “Republicans want liability protections, Democrats want state aid, and the White House wants to press "pause" while pushing payroll tax cuts.”  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/senate-returns-multiple-stumbling-blocks-threaten-next-coronavirus-bill-n1199051  Congress has passed four relief/stimulus bills.  The most recent one included roughly $480 billion in funding, $380 billion of which is dedicated to small business loan programs, $75 billion to hospitals, and $25 billion to establish testing programs.  The bill did not, however, include additional funding for states and cities that are struggling financially during this crisis; funding for the US Postal Service; funding for states to implement vote-by-mail; election security; more money for SNAP (food stamps); more healthcare funding; additional payments to suffering unemployed Americans and essential workers; protections for frontline workers; and help for the homeless, prison populations, disabled community, farm workers, and immigrants. Let’s contact our MoCs to let them know what we feel is needed in this next relief bill.

RATCLIFFE NOMINATION:  This week, the Senate Intelligence Committee will hold hearings on the nomination of Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) to be the next Director of National Intelligence. Ratcliffe lacks the experience this crucial position requires and previously withdrew his nomination for this post after it was revealed he had embellished his resume. He is also a Trump loyalist, raising questions about whether or not he is objective enough for this job (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-05-04/trump-spy-chief-pick-gets-second-shot-with-virus-under-scrutiny, https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/29/senate-john-ratcliffe-confirmation-hearing-221368). Let's contact our senators and let them know we want them to hold Ratcliffe to the highest possible standards as they consider his nomination, and share with them and our networks this list of questions Ratcliffe should answer produced by Lawfare.

DAILY DEATH TOTALS FROM COVID-19 ARE PROJECTED TO NEARLY DOUBLE ONCE MORE THINGS RE-OPEN: According to a White House model, the number of daily deaths, now at 1750 will hit 3,000 by June 1.  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/04/us/coronavirus-updates.html and https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/04/coronavirus-trump-administration-projects-3000-deaths-per-day-by-june.html Yet, states are going ahead with re-opening plans as if the disease is under control. And as the economy re-opens, more people will be faced with the difficult choice between risking their health by working in unsafe conditions or losing their unemployment benefits. Let’s tell our governors that going ahead with re-opening initiatives is reckless and immoral and ask them what they will do to make sure that we are protected against this unnecessary higher risk.

TRUMP AND LINCOLN:  On Sunday night, Trump held a Fox News Town Hall in the shadow of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. During the disgraceful span, Trump claimed to have it worse than Lincoln and moved the goalposts for acceptable US deaths from COVID out to 100,000: https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/04/politics/donald-trump-fox-lincoln-memorial/index.html  Let’s contact our MoC to ask how many of us will be sacrificed to Trump’s insatiable ego.

PPP MONEY TAKEN BY LARGER COMPANIES: Nearly 300 public companies have reported receiving money from the fund, called the Paycheck Protection Program, according to the data compiled by The Post. Recipients include 43 companies with more than 500 workers, the maximum typically allowed by the program. Several other recipients were prosperous enough to pay executives $2 million or more. After the first pool of $349 billion ran dry, leaving more than 80 percent of applicants without funding, outrage over the millions of dollars that went to larger firms prompted some companies to return the money. The Small Business Administration has refused to release the names of companies that have received the loans, despite having released such information on its loan programs for years.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/05/01/sba-ppp-public-companies/ and https://www.ibtimes.com/coronavirus-economy-sba-paycheck-program-awarded-1-billion-publicly-traded-companies-2968754  Let’s tell MOCs to write more restrictions for these loans. This money was supposed to go to small business not companies that pay millions in salary to officers. Let’s ask the Small Business Administration why they won’t provide the names of those 43 companies that took money when previous practice calls for the publication of these names.  Let’s get those names and ask those companies to PAY IT BACK.

WATER ACCESS MUST BE PROTECTED:  The same poor communities most vulnerable to covid-19 are the ones most likely to lose their access to water, but according to Food & Water Watch and the Guardian, about two-fifths of the country relies on water utilities that have not suspended shutoffs for nonpayment, despite public health warnings that good hygiene is crucial to preventing the spread of the coronavirus. The House version of the CARES Act included $1.5 billion to assist low-income households with water bills and required that localities and utilities suspend utility shutoffs to qualify for financial aid during the crisis; all of this was deleted from the final bill approved by the Senate: https://www.consumerreports.org/utilities/millions-in-us-at-risk-of-water-shutoffs-amid-layoffs-triggered-by-pandemic/  or https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/apr/06/millions-us-at-risk-losing-running-water-amid-layoffs-triggered-coronavirus-pandemic  We must demand that our MoCs ensure that water be universally available during this pandemic and that provisions like the House ones be included in the next relief package. And/or let’s sign the Action Network petition:  https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/sign-now-stop-water-shutoffs-during-covid-19-pandemic-and-restore-water-access-immediately

NO SWIFTBOATING, NO BIRTHER-ING, NO BENGHAZI, NO EMAILS—NOT THIS TIME: Boston College Professor Heather Cox Richardson notes the patterns, that once again, the Republicans are successfully shifting the narrative. “The pressure on Biden to release his papers strikes me as the bad faith use of an important political conversation to score political points. It is vital to uncover the truth of what happened between Biden and Reade, but that’s not what’s going on here. Observers are demanding the release of material that has been donated in good faith for future researchers, to uncover information that we know would not be stored there. But it would certainly weaken Biden as a candidate. At the same time, Trump simply refuses to show anyone anything.” https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/may-2-2020  We’ve seen this before. Let’s: (1) write letters to the editor demanding to see Trump’s tax returns, investigations into the dozens of rape and sexual assault accusations against Trump, the publication of John Bolton’s book, investigations into why everyone who worked for Trump is bound to secrecy, and investigations into what has happened to the medical supplies that Trump has seized; submission info here: https://www.theopedproject.org/submission-information, and (2) if we’re represented by Democratic Senators and Representatives, let’s tell to make these demands their talking points, and repeat them ad nauseum.

#STANDWITHMASHPEE: On Thursday, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia will hear arguments in the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe's request for an injunction to preserve its land in trust (https://bit.ly/2yiIimK). In the meantime, let's read this article at Teen Vogue about the Department of Interior's decision to disestablish the Mashpee Wampanoag, then continue calling our senators to pass the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation Reaffirmation Act (H.R. 312) (We can a  sample letter from Color of Change here.) and a bill to amend the 1934 Indian Reorganization Act and broaden which tribes can be federally recognized (H.R. 375)

SPEAK OUT AGAINST ICE TRANSFERRING (RATHER THAN RELEASING) DETAINEES IN RESPONSE TO JUDGE’S ORDERS: After a judge ordered ICE to reduce their detainee population in centers in Broward and Krome County, Florida, because of clear violations of COVID-19 safety protocols, such as lack of social distancing and lack of access to masks, ICE instead has chosen to transfer extra detainees to other centers. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/immigration/article242438581.html. While this is legally allowed, ICE is supposed to formally consider each detainee for release before transferring them, which they are likely not doing. Let’s ask our MoCs to put pressure on ICE to stop this practice, which ultimately creates higher risk by introducing people who have already been exposed into new environments. Moving detainees hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles away also separates detainees from their lawyers and their families.

SPEAK OUT AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ICE DETENTION CENTERS: Last weekend a group of immigrant detainees at the Bristol County Jail in Massachusetts were hospitalized after an incident involving riot police, dogs, and pepper spray. The detainees were complaining about COVID symptoms. However, instead of being evaluated at their own medical unit, they were told that they would be transferred to a different unit, which they had learned from previous detainees was code for being put in solitary confinement, so they refused to go. https://www.wbur.org/news/2020/05/01/coronavirus-ice-detainees-massachusetts-detention?. Let’s ask our MoCs to join Rep. Kennedy, who represents this district, and Senators Markey and Warren to call for an independent investigation of the incident and demand that they call on ICE to release all detainees at this center who have not been convicted for a violent crime. If we live in MA, let’s also contact our state legislators and ask them to make a public statement with these demands.

POSTCARDING OPPORTUNITY:  From one of our own:  At the moment, our nation seems full of tantrum-throwing adults who should know that their haircut isn't worth someone else's life—and should also know that they're risking their own health and their families' health when they gather to throw those tantrums together.  But there are far more of us who believe we ARE all created equal (and all includes the tantrum-throwing folks, too), and if we keep speaking out for the value of all lives we can be much louder than they are.  We can find this week's postcarding write-ups here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1etUZKPfqMK5EDWtjKqqPgYSVi6LKtFWbKBvKQ6g9QZk/edit?usp=sharing

PHONE/TEXT FOR CHRISTY SMITH: The stakes are high in next Tuesday's toss-up special election for the House seat in California's 25th District - Trump is attacking Democratic nominee Assemblywoman Christy Smith on Twitter, and Hillary Clinton has endorsed her.  https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/495686-clinton-endorses-democrat-in-california-special-house-election Let's send a Democrat to the House and send a message to the country by helping Christy win - we can sign up to make phone calls or text for her here.

CALL, TEXT, OR POSTCARD VOTERS WITH GRASSROOTS DEMOCRATS: It has never been more important to get strong progressive leaders in office and Grassroots Democrats is here to help. Whether we prefer calling, texting or postcarding voters, there’s a remote volunteer opportunity ready for us to use. 1) We can sign up here to  make calls to voters in Arizona for Mark Kelly, in Iowa for Theresa Greenfield, and for the House of Representatives in CA 21, 25, and 48.   https://www.mobilize.us/grassrootsdemocratslahq/event/93596/,  2) We can text voters in swing states across the country through Environmental Voter Project or text voters in CA 25 for Christy Smith.  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeYkHSLiso1grAIsDa6mftP3-Upc2ojz9IsQnvHSCP-IskXzg/viewform, and 3) We can write postcards to voters in California to defend the House or to voters in Arizona and Colorado to flip the Senate. When we sign up here, we will get addresses and scripts sent to us within 48 hours.

GET TRAINED TO USE GRASSROOTS DEMOCRATS PHONEBANK SYSTEM: If we would like to make calls  through the Grassroots Dems system, and need to learn how to use it, we can get trained on Zoom TODAY at 7pm Pacific Time or Thursday, May 6 at 6pm Pacific Time. If we can't make one of the scheduled training sessions (Tuesdays at 7pm PDT, Thursdays at 6pm PDT), we can contact Field Director Davis Han at: davis@grassrootsdems.org to schedule a call time that works for us. We can find out more about this free phone banking training and sign up here:

LET’S SEND 10 MILLION LETTERS TO GET OUT THE VOTE IN NOVEMBER: Swing Left and Vote Forward have teamed up for The Big Send. While we’re stuck in quarantine, we can write letters to Democratic-leaning voters in key states, stockpile them, and then mail them before Election Day 2020. There’s no time like the present. Let’s get writing:  https://votefwd.org/bigsend

COVID-19 AND VOTER REGISTRATION: Voter registrations were apparently surging before the coronavirus crisis, but plummeted in March: https://insights.targetsmart.com/an-early-look-at-the-impact-of-the-covid-19-pandemic-on-voter-registration.html Here are a few things we can do to reverse that: (1) Work with our local high schools to get voter registration information out to all students who will be 18 by the November election; (2) Whether we are alums or parents of students, do the same for the colleges we’re connected to; and (3) fight voter suppression by signing up to volunteer with Reclaim Our Vote, https://actionnetwork.org/forms/reclaim-our-vote-signup

BECOME A NOTARY AND HELP WITH ABSENTEE/MAIL-IN BALLOTS: A handful of states (Oklahoma is one) require that absentee or mail-in ballots be notarized or witnessed. It looks increasingly likely that the safest way to vote in November will be to vote via absentee or mail-in ballot. Let’s help people in our communities vote. Let’s see if our state requires that our ballots be notarized by consulting the “state election centers” at Vote.org, https://www.vote.org/, and if it does, let’s consider becoming notaries public: https://www.nationalnotary.org/

POSTCARDS TO HELP MICHIGAN AND WISCONSIN VOTERS GET MAIL-IN BALLOTS: Indivisible Chicago has organized “Postcards to Wisconsin & Michigan.” The postcards, which target Democratic-leaning voters, are to be written now and mailed in October in time for people to request their mail-in ballots. Postcards, addresses, and instructions are free; postcard writers supply the 35-cent stamps. These swing states are crucial to win in November. Let’s sign up and get writing today:  https://www.postcards2wi.com/postcards-to-wimi

STATE ELECTION LAW OVERVIEW: The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law has created resources with information about election calendars, voter registration timetables, the absentee/mail-in voting process, and in-person early voting in every state. Let’s bookmark this and share: https://lawyerscommittee.org/state-election-law/

MOST:  GET REPUBLICANS TO EMBRACE VOTING BY MAIL: “Stanford University just released a new study that looked at the 3 states that rolled out vote by mail across the state. The data told them that voting by mail does not give one party an advantage over the other.” https://politicalcharge.org/2020/04/23/how-to-get-republicans-to-embrace-voting-by-mail  That’s the key to their objections, isn’t it? Let’s call our Republican Governors with this data and remind them it’s their job to protect their constituents and institute vote by mail!

MA:  RANKED CHOICE VOTING: Voter Choice for Massachusetts is working to place a question on the 2020 ballot that would bring Ranked Choice Voting to Massachusetts elections starting in 2022.  If we are willing to sign up and help them get on the ballot — our volunteers and staff will coordinate mailing you a signature sheet (with a pre-addressed return envelope and stamp) so that you can safely support our efforts, click here.

MI: LINE 5: Enbridge has filed an application with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) "requesting authority to replace and relocate the segment of Line 5 crossing the Straits of Mackinac into a tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac," (https://bit.ly/2W5byGJ). Rather than approving the replacement of a pipeline that puts our Great Lakes at risk, it is essential to continue the work to decommission Line 5. Before a decision is made, the MPSC is open to comment from Michigan residents. Let's make sure we leave a comment by the May 13th deadline. We can read more about Line 5 at the For Love of Water (FLOW) Line 5 information page, then use the talking points available at Sierra Club to write an informed comment with the MPSC by email: mpscedockets@michigan.gov or by mail to: Michigan Public Service Commission, 7109 W. Saginaw Highway, Lansing, MI 48917.  Let's make sure to include Case No. U-20763 in our comments. Or, we can use the link and comment available at Oil & Water Don't Mix.

This week's list - new: 10,000 Federal employees tested positive for coronavirus: Bureau of Land Management rush on lease sales *under EPA enviro section); EPA refusal to regulate particulate matter; EPA refusal to regulate neurotoxin methyl bromide; and Proposed Rule on HHS OIG - interesting in light of the fact that Trump fired the Inspector General for HHS this week for identifying critical medical shortages. And under closing soon, Strengthening Transparency in Regulatory Science comment period was extended, enough time for their own Science Advisory Board to criticize the proposal. Strange times. https://drive.google.com/open?id=14Z-ICSg9oLNyoVAZfR_YQxuNb348rf5y
