12/6/16  To-do List

There is no special way to attack this action list. If it seems overwhelming, just do the first two items to make it easier.  If you have a little more time, do the third….and the fourth…. Or, choose items that speak to your heart.  Some people cut and paste the list, print it off and take it with them so they can check items off while they are out and about during the day and just waiting or driving.  Others click and do items as they work on their computer or phone.  There is no right way to do this.  Just do something!

 Michigan

  1. This is now rushing through the MI House:  Bill 6097 – sponsored by Lisa Lyons (the same woman who introduced voter suppression legislation this week) that would require any candidate requesting a recount and who received less than 5% of the vote to pay 100% of the costs of the recount. According the House Fiscal Agency’s analysis of the bill, “if the percentage differential is less than 5%, the current law—that the petitioner must only pay $25 per district for which the petitioner is requesting a recount—will remain in effect.”  The final line of the bill says, “This amendatory act is retroactive and effective January 1, 2016” meaning that they are retroactively applying this to specifically punish Jill Stein.  Call your representatives now!  http://act.commoncause.org/site/PageServer?pagename=sunlight_advocacy_list_page

  1. As you may have heard, contacting our people in Lansing worked!  Retirement benefits for teachers, as well as for public safety personnel, will not be addressed in this lame duck session.  We WILL have work to do in January when they bring up new, but similar bills.

  1. Depending on where you live in MI, there still may be a opportunity to help with the recount:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdltsQ_oMZLfKuXuAX12-C1C3-BLeJK9NLFVoPuHyXQr9qDrg/viewform?c=0&w=1
